Rehabs 360 Guide

Artesian Wellness & Recovery Centers is a holistic addiction treatment program in Stuart, Fla., just six miles from the coast, that’s dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome substance abuse (SUD) disorders and other patterns of addiction. Licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services, Artesian offers both partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care as well as sober community housing.

Artesian is one of just 164 (24.6 percent) of facilities in the state of Florida to offer PHP care and one of just 287 (43.0 percent) that offer PHP care.

Artesian views addiction as a brain disease that is “beyond conscious control” yet “fully curable.” Throughout their stay, typically four to eight weeks in length*, clients may reside at a quaint and quiet sober living community nearby.

Artesian offers intensive PHP and IOP options, both of which can be combined with the facility’s structured sober living community. Programs typically involve a combination of individual and group therapy, family counseling, addiction education, recreational therapy, and exercise. Clients also learn to develop skills essential to independent living like preparing healthy meals and going grocery shopping. Optional religious services are also available.

In addition to these traditional methods, Artesian utilizes IV amino acid therapy, a biochemical approach that aims to repair and rebalance the brain during early stages of recovery. Other treatment modalities include neurofeedback, auricular therapy, yoga, meditation, massage, and auriculotherapy.

Artesian is led by an executive director, a board-certified naturopathic doctor and master’s level psychologist, and a clinical director with more than two decades of experience treating addiction and mental health disorders.

Collectively, the 15 individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave Artesian an excellent average rating of 4.26 out of five stars for its staff’s level of training and experience.

The Artesian housing community is a campus of quaint homes spread out along two city blocks. In total, it can accommodate as many as 60 clients at a time. Housing is located near historic downtown Stuart, offering convenient access to local recovery meetings and public transportation. Residents are expected to attend daily recovery meetings and hold themselves accountable to regular drug screenings and other facility policies.

By and large, alumni feedback was positive. Of those polled by Rehabs.com, six recommended the center through key metrics:

Would recommend: 3.8/5 stars
Family participation: 3.7/5 stars
Staff experience and training: 3.5/5 stars

Most alumni found the facility’s strength was in its staff, described collectively as “understanding,” knowledgeable,” and “regularly available.” “The matter what the circumstances they can help and if they can’t help they know someone who can,” wrote J.K. Others told of a “caring environment” as well as uniquely tailored treatment plans, calling Artesian a “great place to get a fresh start.” “At Artesian they showed me how to change my thinking and my lifestyle,” wrote Jess.

To date, Artesian also has excellent average ratings of 4.8 and 4.4 out of five stars, respectively, from 26 Facebook users and seven Google reviewers. Many alumni between the two sites credited the center with saving their lives.[1][2]

Loved ones also offered positive feedback. The five surveyed by Rehabs.com were consistent in their approval of different areas of treatment:

Would recommend: 5/5 stars
Cleanliness: 5/5 stars
Family Participation: 5/5 stars

Reviewers also cited positive experiences in their written commentary, specifically regarding the center’s individualized treatment and unique nutrition and IV amino acid approach. “Excellent Counseling & Nutrition Availability of Amino Acid supplementation to help restore brain chemistry,” wrote Mary. In their five-star review, J.G. wished they only “heard about it sooner.”

Complaints focused on transportation services, increased costs for living at the facility “with no notice,” and the program structure.

The four staff members polled by Rehabs.com to date celebrated most areas of the program, reflected by average ratings of either 4.75 or 4.5 stars out of five for the abovementioned categories. One employee elaborated on the center’s “natural approach” to treatment: “The aminos help resolve the Post Acute Withdrawal syndrome,” they wrote.

Artesian accepts most private insurance plans, according to the center’s website, making it just one of 463 (69.3 percent) of facilities statewide to do so. Treatment costs depend on the specifics of a client’s insurance plan, deductible amounts, and other details.
