ABOUT ATLANTA ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTER
Located beside a busy road in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta, Atlanta Addiction Recovery Center (AARC) is offers ambulatory (or outpatient) detox as well as a variety of longer-term outpatient care options, for individuals struggling with problematic substance use.
A press release published in June 2017 indicated that the facility was recently opened, and that it's owned by RiverMend Health, an Atlanta-based organization that runs six treatment facilities around the US. Before becoming AARC, the facility at this address was known as RiverMend Health Centers Drug & Alcohol Rehab Atlanta.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The program uses the 12-Steps alongside evidence-based treatment methods, primary among them eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
Clients who require detox are provided with appropriate medications to ease their withdrawal, and are trained in holistic methods to relieve their anxiety and promote relaxation. These clients may return to their own homes each night during detox.
After detox, the most intensive level of care is a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which requires clients to attend for a full day of programming (up to six hours a day), five days a week. During the PHP, clients participate in individual, group, and family counseling and 12-step and Celebrate Recovery work. Their spiritual health is addressed through daily meditation, prayer, or worship sessions, and their broader emotional and physical wellbeing through exercise, nutritional counseling, and weekly appointments with a physician.
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is available as either entry-level or step-down care. IOP clients typically start out by attending treatment five days a week, for three hours a day; after around a month, the intensity of treatment will begin to taper. The IOP is available in both the daytime and the evening, to suit a variety of schedules. Standard outpatient care involves weekly individual therapy, plus group and family therapy as needed. AARC also offers a regular aftercare group.

AARC's medical director is an MD who's board-certified in addiction medicine and anesthesiology. The team also includes four master's-level counselors and a nurse practitioner.
