ABOUT SERENITY HOUSE COUNSELING SERVICES, INC.
Based in the Chicago suburb of Addison, Ill., Serenity House Counseling Services provides treatment to individuals struggling with substance use disorder. The facility offers outpatient services, residential extended-care programs, and sober living houses. It's also among the 53.1 percent of Illinois treatment facilities to provide services for DUI clients.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment follows evidence-based treatment practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), the latter of which is offered by 52 percent of treatment facilities in Illinois.
Outpatient options include an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and a standard outpatient program. Both provide group and individual counseling, as well as support group participation and drug testing. There's also an outpatient program specifically for adolescents, which is a specialty service provided by just 26.5 percent of treatment centers in Illinois.
The extended residential homes are gender-specific and require residents to gain full-time employment within one week of admission into the 90-day program. The facility also provides five to nine hours of treatment services a week.
Clients staying in Serenity House's sober living facilities must attend a minimum of three support group meetings a week and participate in a weekly one-hour recovery management group.
The treatment team includes outpatient counselors, adolescent counselors, and certified addiction counselors for the men’s and women’s extended-care homes.

Serenity House has a total of seven gender-specific sober living facilities spread throughout Addison, Naperville, and Villa Park. Both the sober living homes and extended-care homes provide meals and enforce strict nightly curfews.

Of the five former clients surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, two gave the facility positive feedback, while three provided negative feedback. Mark and James, the two positive reviewers, described Serenity House as a helpful treatment center with solid programming and staff. "Great Halfway house with a great program and staff," James wrote in a review representative of positive feedback, offering perfect five-star ratings for the respect shown to clients, the training of counselors, effectiveness of individual counseling, and conflict resolution.
The three unhappy reviewers, who all participated in the extended-care programs, complained that Serenity House provided minimal therapy and staffed unfocused counselors. In a review representative of negative feedback, Ted wrote: "They do not do much counceling. They say one hour a week at half way house, but is more like 30 minutes at best with councelor who is focused on doing something else at the time."
Serenity House Counseling Services received positive feedback on secondary sites, earning an average rating of 4.4 out of five starsbased on 10 Google reviews and a 4.8 out of five star rating based on the opinions of 39 individuals on Facebook, which the facility may manage.. Across both sites, the majority of alumni who left feedback reported that the facility provided effective, well-organized structured treatment. "This is a very clean and structured progam for those who need a safe and secure place to get a recovery foundation started," Joel wrote in a representative review on Google.
Serenity House Counseling Services accepts some private insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Aetna, and Cigna Value Options. The facility also accepts Medcaid, which is accepted by a little more than half (52.1 percent) of all treatment facilities in Illinois. The extended residential care costs $170 per week for counseling, housing, food, and laundry.
