ABOUT GATEWAY FOUNDATION— CHICAGO RIVER NORTH
Gateway Foundation’s treatment center in Chicago River North offers outpatient substance use treatment for adults. It is one of the foundation’s 17 treatment centers in Illinois, Delaware, and California. It also treats patients with co-occurring mental health disorders.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
An outpatient facility, Chicago River North offers individual, group, and family therapies. The center utilizes Evidence-Based Treatment (EBT) and also facilitates 12-Step treatment. If needed, staff may refer patients to a residential facility. The center also utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT).
According to its site, the center offers flexible scheduling for adults coping with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders primarily through Medication-Assisted Treatment, one of 274 Illinois facilities (40 percent) to offer this form of treatment. Specifically, the center treats with buprenorphine (one of just 449) to offer this form of therapy.
It also has an alumni program for patients who have completed treatment.
Gateway Foundation Chicago River North has a full staff of psychiatric and medical professionals.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The web site does not discuss accommodations, however, photos of the facility show a large commercial brick building surrounded by shops and apartment buildings. Interior photos show an understated reception area and a sparse conference room with abundant seating.

A general Facebook page for Gateway Foundation shows 12 reviewers rated it an 8.2 out of 10.  Most reviews were positive, with alums praising the staff, amenities, and effectiveness of the program.
One reviewer wrote, “Incredible staff and program.” Another wrote, “This place has helped me in so many ways, it was a life saving experience.”
