Ecker Center For Behavioral Health - Renz Office

Two American Way, Elgin, Illinois, 60120

Renz Center's mission is to empower individuals to lead healthier lives. The philosophy of the treatment programs is based on the belief that addiction is a chronic, progressive disease with its own symptomology. As with many chronic diseases the person affected and those closest to them are often blinded to the existence of the disease and as such attempt to deny its presence. While substance use and gambling disorders are unique diseases, other diseases or illnesses of a physical or psychological nature will exist concurrently. Renz Center believes that recovery from addiction is possible through abstinence. Every client is unique, and every person has the potential for growth. Treatment is a complex process which no one person or agency can provide. Renz Center provides specialized outpatient services whenever possible and will refer to an individual or agency when necessary. Recovery is not strictly a program or an event, but a process.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Renz Addiction Counseling Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides evidence-based outpatient treatment for substance abuse and gambling, prevention programs, and gender-specific groups for women. The center is one of the 127 (20.1 percent) of Illinois treatment facilities to provide treatment for gambling disorders. These services take place across four different facilities in Elgin, Ill., about an hour west of Chicago.

Treatment begins with an initial assessment interview in which client and counselor work together in determining the level and type of care most needed. Clinical services at the center range widely from early intervention and counseling for teenagers in the early stages of drug use to intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment for adults who require the support and structure of inpatient care with more flexibility.

There are also specialized groups for young adults, clients with co-occurring mental health disorders, as well as for those struggling with thinking errors and impulsive decision making, trauma and relapse. These groups make use of a variety of evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and Seeking Safety. It is also one of the 292 (46.1 percent) of Illinois treatment facilities to use the Matrix Model and one of 329 (52 percent) of Illinois facilities to use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

In Passage, the center’s gender-specific program, women focus on their recovery within individual and gender-specific groups while their children are attend free childcare. Prevention services are designed for individuals at-risk of HIV and youth and young adults in the local community.

Counselors are certified in substance abuse and problem gambling.
