ABOUT BRIGHTSIDE CLINIC

With two locations in Chicago, Ill., including one in Tinley Park, Brightside Clinic offers outpatient treatment to adults and adolescents dependent on opioids, including heroin and prescription painkillers such as Vicodin and OxyContin. The facility in Northbrook provides medication assisted therapy (MAT) with buprenorphine, as well as counseling options and support groups.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All clients receive a comprehensive substance dependence assessment upon intake, in addition to a mental health exam and a full physical. In order to receive treatment, clients must be experiencing mild to moderate opioid withdrawal symptoms at the time of intake.

During the induction phase of treatment, clients are switched from the opioid they are currently taking to a buprenorphine-based medication. They are then monitored and a treatment plan is created depending on their response to the first dose. Additional medications may be administered to ease withdrawal symptoms. According to Brightside's website, the induction phase can take between one to four hours.

Clients report to the clinic on a regular basis to receive their medication while their progress is monitored. Once they are stabilized, a maintenance plan is created. This can last anywhere from a few months to several years, depending on the severity of the addiction, and may include counseling. When appropriate, clients being to taper off of their medication as they work toward completing treatment.

Weekly SMART Recovery meetings are held at Brightside, and a specialized program for adolescents ages 16 and up is offered.
