Rehabs 360 Guide

“Start Now, Begin Healing” is the message that Tara Treatment Center conveys to individuals struggling with substance abuse. Based in Franklin, Ind., on 13 serene countryside acres, the non-profit facility offers a full continuum of services, including on-site detoxification, gender-specific residential treatment, transitional residential treatment, partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), standard outpatient program (OP), as well as aftercare.

The rehab, which has operated since 1985, offers a special free family program to help family members and significant others understand the disease of addiction. Tara Treatment Center is among 3.6 percent of residential, non-hospital treatment facilities in Indiana that provides detox, 8.5 percent with long-term (30+ days) treatment programs, and among 5.9 percent of Indiana facilities with short-term residential programs.

At Tara Treatment Center, the process for clients begins with a free confidential assessment, which uses the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria to determine the appropriate level of care. Clients in detox are monitored 24/7 by a licensed medical team to help them through the withdrawal process and, when stabilized, transition to the next phase.

Gender-specific residential treatment typically lasts 30 to 42 days, predicated upon a spirituality-based, holistic approach. In addition to the 12-Steps, individual therapy, psychoeducation, and group counseling, the facility offers its clients recovery-specific yoga classes, experiential therapy, relapse prevention education, and equine-assisted therapy.

Men who complete the residential track and require further stabilization may opt for the transitional residential treatment offering. Participants in that track engage in clinical sessions along with employment, community activities, and networking.

Other residential program graduates may wish to enter the outpatient-based PHP, which is also offered on a standalone basis to new clients. Clients in the IOP engage in a combination of treatment and education on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for nine weeks. Outpatient services also include an OP as well as an aftercare group that meets once a week.
