TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The treatment process at Youth and Shelter Services, Inc. typically begins with a psychiatric consultation to set the pace, goals, and intensity of an individual or family’s recovery. Clinic staff may manage a client’s medication to produce more effective recovery results.
Following this initial consultation, clients may be recommended for one of a few distinct services. There are Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) that focus primarily on helping a child develop essential skills like resolve conflict, manage their anger, and communicate more effectively with others. At-home and in-school services are also available though the clinic’s Integrated Health Services (IHS). Individuals, couples, and entire families, where necessary, can better their lives in any number of ways in therapy sessions, whether it involves developing coping skills, decision making skills, social skills, or improving the overall communication within a family unit.
YSS Family Counseling & Clinic also provides evaluations and counseling services for teens and young adults who are struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD) as well as mediation and visitation counseling for those involved in a separation or divorce. It is among the 47 percent of Iowa facilities with adolescent services.
As an organization, Youth and Shelter Services, Inc. is led by a team of program directors. Staff varies from location to location, though one may expect certified counselors and specialists who have training, education, and experience in their respective fields.
