  • Individualized Treatment

Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc
  • Family Program

Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

Rehabs 360 Guide

For more than 25 years, The Liberty Ranch has been providing short- and long-term residential treatment for adults who are struggling with substance abuse, as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and women’s transitional living program.

The center, located in the hills of rural Kentucky, positions itself as an affordable rehabilitation center that offers a “safe, structured, and comfortable environment.” The facility is a peer-run, community-based center, where staff members are also in active recovery. Among treatment facilities in Kentucky, The Liberty Ranch is among 15.3 percent of facilities that provide residential, non-hospital services, 36.8 percent with an IOP, and among 43.2 percent with specially tailored programs for adult women.

At The Liberty Ranch, treatment is firmly rooted in the 12-Steps, how to integrate these principles into daily life, and the notion that sustained recovery requires personal change. The center teaches residents integrity, self-respect, accountability, honesty, and self-sufficiency.

In addition to daily 12-step meetings, clients participate in peer groups, goal setting workshops, and resident meetings, as well as recreational activities, such as hiking, fishing, and volleyball. Clients also participate in topic-specific group and individual counseling sessions.

The facility recommends 90 days or more of treatment, but also offers 30- or 60-day stays. Loved ones are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, participate in weekly family group meetings, and build networks with families of clients in the program.

The IOP is a comprehensive option based on evidence-based practices and psychological principles. Clients attend three days per week for three hours per session and engage in individual counseling that promotes solution-focused therapy, as well as family counseling and medication management.

Specialized treatment for women at the Women’s Transitional Living Program focuses on the unique needs of this population. Clients learn how to become independent, develop self-esteem, and engage in recovery dynamics.

The Liberty Ranch, a community-led center, engages staff members who are in recovery, including many graduates of the facility. Although most of programming is led by peers, the rehab also provides therapy services facilitated by licensed and experienced professionals who are associated with the facility. Staff members include case managers and peer support specialists. The staff-to-client ratio is 1:4.

The Liberty Ranch maintains 32 beds in shared rooms in a 6,500-square-foot facility on 70 acres of rolling hills and woodlands. Men and women live in separate residences. The women-only facility is separated by one mile from the men’s site.

Clients have access to a gym, basketball and tennis courts, trails, and fire pits. The center offers Internet access and, on most weekends, residents go on outings to local attractions, such as to the zoo, horse park, and scenic falls. To date, the 18 individuals polled on the matter praised the facility's upkeep and amenities.
