ABOUT PASSAGEWAYS

From an office in Forest Hills, 10 miles east of downtown Louisville, Ky., PassageWays offers outpatient alcohol and drug addiction treatment for adult men and women. The center specializes in providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and is among the 37 percent of facilities in Kentucky that offers dedicated programming for individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders.

Medical detox is not available on-site, but the center does work with a local hospital to offer an initial medical stabilization period. Established in 2014, PassageWays is one of the 51.8 percent of Kentucky-based rehabs that operate as a private nonprofit.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment begins with an in-depth needs assessment and professional evaluation, which are used to determine the most appropriate course of treatment — specifically, which medications would be most helpful, and the best-suited type and intensity of therapy. Clients who need to withdraw from alcohol or drugs might be referred to a nearby hospital, where they receive intensive medical management from physicians and nurses.

Once the outpatient component begins, the program is multidisciplinary, 12-step based, and holistic. MAT is a cornerstone of treatment: PassageWays is among the 16.2 percent of Kentucky-based rehabs that offer Suboxone therapy for opioid addiction. The facility doesn't currently state which other medications it uses, though the center's website does imply that medications are only intended for use in the short term, until the client has stabilized.

Outside of medications, the center offers individual and group counseling and educational sessions. Clients may also be encouraged or required to attend 12-step meetings on-site or within the community.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The PassageWays treatment team includes physicians and counselors, and the center's website notes that staff will liaise with clients' other doctors, legal teams, and other professionals, when necessary.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

"Great people who want to see you succeed and stay clean & sober," wrote alum Marissa in the only review submitted to Rehabs.com to date. Marissa gave the program five out of five stars for its effectiveness.

PassageWays also has very positive feedback on secondary sites at the time of this writing, with a 4.2 out of five-star average rating based on six reviews on Facebook (where the facility can manage its own page) and a single five-star rating on Google.[1] [2] The reviewers gave unspecific but very enthusiastic feedback. "They have saved my life. Guess what?. They really care. I couldnt believe the care they show," Tim wrote in a representative comment on Facebook.

FINANCING

PassageWays charges a currently unspecified monthly fee that includes all services. The center is among the 35.4 percent of facilities in Kentucky that do not accept any private insurance policies, though staff will assist with reimbursement from their provider.
