The setting is a home type setting which adolescents are more receptive to in treatment. There is a mixture of staff who are in recovery and those who have not personally dealt with addiction issues, so the perspectives of all staff make this a great place for adolescents. There is a lake, a weight room/gym, basketball, volleyball, equine roundpin (equine therapy in the near future to start), meals prepared by an executive chef which are decided upon by a registered dietitian, and the schedule is nicely put together. The boys have plenty of time for schoolwork, reading, leisure activities, and still maintain their program at Stonewater. It is a new facility so there are still changes being made to the employee schedule, policies, etc. but that is to be expected. Communication between staff needs to improve a great deal to help things flow easier from day to day. This is a great facility/program from what I know. The employees are truly dedicated to helping these boys get to a place in their life where the addiction is a memory rather than a struggle. The Nurses, Clinical Assistants, counselors/therapists, and everyone involved want the best for everyone who comes thru their doors. If we can positively affect the patient long term, then we have also positively affected the family and friends of that patient long term, and hopefully broken an unforgiving cycle of addiction
I spent over 150 days in Residential and PHP treatment between the Oxford Center's Etta and Resolutions campuses. The decision to enter treatment at the Oxford Center saved my life. My alcoholism led to over a dozen hospital stays, including three weeks in the ICU on life support. Four previous stays at residential treatment resulted only in short-term sobriety, usually lasting a few weeks. I originally committed to 90 days at the Etta facility. The Etta facility provides a beautiful outdoor backdrop enabling patients to move freely and rebuild their physical strength. Patients are able to participate in a variety of basic educational and experiential groups, both indoors and outdoors. As a long time horse owner, I enjoyed the Equine Therapy program and its dedicated staff. The educational programming includes DBT, CBT, Relapse Prevention, Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Art, the 12 Steps, and Holistic Wellness. Many of the therapists are in recovery, enabling them to provide patients a unique perspective on the recovery process. Overall, I found the therapists to be dedicated to their patients' recovery. Deja, Michael, Ricky, Jim, Marty, Greg, Katie, and Hank stood out not only for their knowledge, but their ability to engage patients in groups. Upon completing 90 days at Etta, I opted to spend 60 days at Oxford's Resolutions campus for PHP treatment. This smaller facility enabled patients to form a strong sense of community. The houses are well maintained and appointed. The staff at Resolutions proved exceptional as well. I participated in the Mental Health track and had Larry as my therapist. Larry is hands down the best therapists I have had over the last 15 years of mental health treatment. His knowledge and demeanor put me at ease and he was able to help me with issues I had never previously addressed in therapy or treatment. Tiffany, the Case Manager at Resolutions, is very helpful in work with patients to set up aftercare, including identifying providers, scheduling appointments, and arranging housing at sober living. Overall, I would highly recommend the Oxford Center for substance abuse treatment. Future patients committed to recovery will find an exceptionally caring staff eager to guide them through the tumultuous stages of early sobriety.
