Rehabs 360 Guide

Situated on a tranquil, secluded 44-acre property in Medford, N.J., 20 miles east of Philadelphia, Pinelands Recovery Center (formally Ambrosia Treatment Center) offers residential treatment and outpatient-based programs for men and women struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. The facility also provides medical detox services onsite, placing it among the 4.1 percent of non-hospital facilities to provide detox services.

Treatment at Pinelands begins with a comprehensive assessment by a team of qualified specialists. Upon admission, an intake coordinator determines if detox is needed through an initial assessment. If detoxification is necessary, the facility blends medication, nutrition, and 24-hour medical monitoring to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal.

Pinelands's core programming includes evidence-based, therapeutic treatment methods to address underlying issues contributing to addictive behavior. In addition to 12-step involvement, clients participate in individual and group counseling sessions, as well as educational classes and meditation sessions.

In addition, Pinelands provides a range of alternative treatment activities to support mental and spiritual rehabilitative methods, such as yoga, art and music therapy, and weekly spirituality groups. Family involvement is encouraged throughout the process, which may include counseling through the facility's family program. Typically, the residential program lasts at least 30 days, placing it among the state's 38 facilities to provide long-term residential care.

Upon residential discharge, clients may be encouraged to "step-down" to a less-intensive level of care. Pinelands offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP), in which clients return home after a full day of programming, as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP). If a client requires additional support upon discharge, Pinelands also operates transitional living homes offering various degrees of supervision.

The treatment staff at Pinelands consists of physicians, psychiatric nurses, registered nurses, licensed therapists, substance abuse counselors, and case managers. Nursing staff is available 24/7 to oversee medication management and to treat clients’ medical needs.

Pinelands's residential building features 15 client rooms, with 30 beds, in a lodge-type setting. Each double occupancy room features a flat-screen TV and en-suite bathroom. The grounds feature a volleyball court, basketball court, sprawling green space, and outdoor patios.
