Rehabs 360 Guide

Named for the guide who helped Lewis and Clark move through unfamiliar and challenging territory, Sacajawea Substance Abuse Counseling offers outpatient treatment for adults struggling with substance use disorder. The small, private counseling center is located in Dickinson, N. D., and provides support for families as well as individuals. Detox services are not available.

To begin the process of treatment, clients can participate in an initial online assessment, which is used to create a personal plan of therapy and recovery. The facility’s two primary counselors approach chemical dependency and substance abuse with an emphasis on responsibility and positive choices. One counselor’s main treatment method is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The other counselor focuses on 12-step concepts, which is used by 51 (71.8 percent) of North Dakota treatment facilities.

They also practice faith-based counseling and other evidence-based modalities, including motivational enhancement therapy, solution-focused therapy, and rational emotive behavioral therapy, which is only offered by 15.5 percent of facilities. The center’s website describes the drug and alcohol addiction treatment as “low intensity.”

Alcohol and drug evaluations and Prime for Life DUI classes are also offered for clients facing obligations in the legal system, making the center one of 30 (42.3 percent) of treatment facilities in the state to offer DUI/DWI services. The DUI class requires a breathalyzer test and both services include reports to be shared with the North Dakota Department of Transportation and other relevant agencies.

Both members of the treatment team are licensed addiction counselors, one with more than three decades of experience.

The counseling center is located in a mixed commercial and residential neighborhood, blocks from the Stark County Courthouse. In photographs on the facility’s website, group and individual counseling rooms appear comfortably furnished in an office setting.

While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, Sacajawea Substance Abuse Counseling earned two five-star ratings, and one one-star rating, on Google[1]. The two former clients who left feedback had differing opinions of the facility. Barb praised the center for their effective counseling and wrote: "They are serious about helping you in your recovery and understand how hard it is to get clean and stay clean."

Geno, on the other hand, described staff as "unprofessional and rude," and wrote: "Do not go here and do not recommend!!!"

According to the facility's website, an alcohol and drug evaluation costs $175. There is currently no other information provided on the facility's website regarding its costs.
