Not my first attempt at sobriety, but this time it stuck. Good food and nutritional advice, caring staff. My individual counselor appreciated that I wanted to understand more about the underlying mental condition that contributed to my addiction. She provided me with 3rd party literature to assist me. As a smoker, I didn't want to tackle that at the same time. They let us take breaks and even provided cigarettes or alternatives such as the patch, for those in need. Although not created on site, I thought the food was excellent. I gained some much-needed weight. The staff allowed cliques to form and some individuals were left out, which, in my opinion, is a contributing factor in addiction.
At first I hated it, I hated myself, hated everyone. Once my head was clear of all the drugs & not clouded anymore I realized my self worth & didn't need those drugs. The staff & all employees here are just amazing & I love & miss each & every one of them! They all helped me along the way in their own way between their own stories, their, support, & their patience with me because they had to have alot of patience with me. I recommend the Recovery Council to anyone & everyone! Even for the mental health! Both my mental health counselors were amazing, the staff at both houses in residential and transitional!!! Just amazing!!!!
There was a lot of "busy wok" meaning worksheets and groups were lead always by a counselor. It wasn't individual based, it was group-based. Individual counseling always had paperwork--it was more like information gathering and the purpose for the information was unclear to me. I didn't feel connected to any of the counselors---I didn't feel like it was personal at all--they never knew me. I was just an addict.
