Specialization

  • 12-Step

The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.
  • Individual Therapy

This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE

JourneyPure operates a network of inpatient and outpatient addiction and mental health facilities. Its Center for Professional Excellence (CPE), located in Murfreesboro, Tenn., offers separate residential treatment programs for professional men and women who are struggling with substance abuse or a dual diagnosis.

The organization defines “professionals” as “leaders in their fields” or those “who hold an exceptional amount of responsibility in their job title.” Detox is offered on-site, as one of 27 substance abuse treatment facilities throughout the state to offer this service in a residential, non-hospital setting.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The men’s facility for professionals begins with a thorough evaluation that lasts 3.5 days and includes several individual interviews, a psychiatric evaluation, psychological tests, and a review of the client’s health and medical background.

Treatment utilizes 12-Step along with a proprietary program called the Spiritual Root System, which “exposes the five roots of the human heart": feelings, needs, desire, longing, and hope. The residential program lasts at least eight weeks, which combines daily group therapy with 12-step work, intensive marriage and family therapy, individual treatment, and education. All graduating clients leave with a comprehensive aftercare plan, which includes access to the JourneyPure Coaching app.

The women’s substance abuse treatment program for professionals is also based on 12-Step. The curriculum helps clients resolve underlying trauma or distress and focuses on issues specific to professional women. Clients engage in evidence-based therapies, receive clinical and psychological support, and are given their own aftercare plan.

Other offerings include special addiction treatment tracts for physicians, healthcare professionals, and nurses.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

CPE has a staff-to-client ratio of 1:2 and was founded by a Ph.D-level counselor. The team includes licensed professional counselors and marriage and family therapists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The men’s facility accommodates 10 clients in a gated community, set in a quiet neighborhood near the Nashville Zoo. Located nearby on a separate property in a Southern-style home, the women’s facility accommodates 12 clients. Amenities include serene spaces for meditation, outdoor amphitheater, activities building, and large outdoor deck.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

To date, five alumni submitted mixed reviews to Rehabs.com about CPE: three highly positive, two negative. The three who evaluated two major categories of the survey all awarded perfect five stars for treatment effectiveness, and two five-star and one four-star rating for accommodations and amenities.

Two of the reviewers provided more detailed impressions and both awarded five stars for a range of metrics, including facility cleanliness, conflict resolution, consistency, frequency of counseling, level of staff training and experience, safety, and staff support. One alum wrote: “I spent 3 months at CPE a few years ago, and it was the best think that I ever did for myself and my family. I think that it is a phenomenal program and has a superb staff.”

However, negative reviewers cited business issues concerning lack of communication, withholding funds, and extremely high fees as weaknesses. One alum wrote: “Steer clear of this program no matter what!”

On secondary review sites, CPE received mixed feedback, skewed to the positive to date. On Google reviews, out of five stars, three alumni gave the facility one-, four-, and five-star ratings. [1] Alum John wrote: "I have and will continue to recommend CPE to anyone that needs the services they offer!" However, supporting some other alumni critiques, Lyndsay was critical of administrative issues, writing: "The treatment seems great if you can overlook the rest, which I cannot."

FINANCING

CPE requires payment upfront, but will file an insurance claim for clients if desired. It does not publish its treatment costs online.
