Located on over 10 acres in Angleton, Texas, about one hour south of Houston Medical Center, we are a great escape from the commotion of the city, yet close enough for family to visit. With a 24-hour admissions staff, SLR is equipped to admit any time day or night. We offer an intensive family program to educate and assist the family on substance use disorder to aid in the healing process. Acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, personal training, nutritional assessments, BioSound, private suites and an optional faith-based track are just a few of the therapeutic amenities available to develop a healthy lifestyle and promote a transformation for a new life free from drugs and alcohol. The majority of our staff is in recovery. We want to walk this journey with our clients by providing compassion and empathy. Located in the community of Angleton, Texas, 40 miles south of Houston, Serenity Light Recovery offers a full continuum of treatment programs for adults seeking treatment for chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. The facility offers residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and medical detoxification. The facility also provides specialized program tracks for military veterans, as well as a Christian-based track.


Before enrolling into a treatment program, clients undergo an initial assessment to determine an appropriate level of care and help clinicians develop an individualized plan of care. If detoxification is necessary, Serenity Light Recovery combines medications, such as Suboxone, Librium, and Lorazepam, with biofeedback sessions, and massage therapy to ease the discomfort of withdrawal. It is one of the 36 (8.4 percent) of detox programs in Texas. It is also one of the 101 (23.4 percent) of Texas facilities that use Suboxone in treatment.

The detoxification program also includes educational classes and process groups. Once an individual completes detoxification, clinicians may encourage the client to transition into the facility’s residential program.

Residential treatment typically lasts between 30 to 35 days, making it one of Texas’s 94 (21.8 percent) of long-term treatment programs. To treat residents, Serenity Light Recovery blends 12-step facilitation, evidence-based treatments, and holistic approaches. During residential treatment, clients participate in individual, group, and family therapy. The facility also offers a three-day family program for loved ones.

The facility also offers introduces residents to alternative self-help program, such as SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery.

Serenity Light Recovery integrates psychoeducational workshops, brain mapping and biofeedback sessions, and a trigger awareness program to help prevent relapse. In addition, the facility offers a faith-based track, which incorporates Christian-based principles and Bible study sessions into overall programming, while the specialized veterans program addresses issues of common among veterans, such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is one of Texas’ 310 (71.9 percent) of trauma-informed treatment programs.

To treat co-occurring mental health disorders, the facility provides a range of treatments, such as pharmacological intervention, medication management, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) sessions for trauma. Along with traditional treatment methods, Serenity Light Recovery incorporates a range of holistic treatments, including yoga (in group or individual settings), mindful meditation, therapeutic massages, and personal training sessions.

Once a client completes residential care, the facility may encourage residents to transition into the facility’s intensive outpatient program. IOP involves four treatment sessions per week and typically lasts eight weeks. The center also offers a year of aftercare recovery coaching to alumni who graduate from residential treatment.


Serenity Light Recovery employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of a physician, licensed chemical dependency counselors, nurses, a minister, yoga instructor, and support staff. It is one of the 119 (27.6 percent) of treatment facilities in Texas that are accredited by the Joint Commission.


Serenity Light Recovery is a Southern-style mansion located on 10 acres of grounds, complete with a pond, gazebos, and plenty of green space. The facility features a fitness room, a game room, art studio, yoga studio, and well-furnished communal areas. The facility’s detox unit offers 10 beds, while the residential wing can accommodate 52 clients. The facility features eight private suites, which are service dog-friendly, and feature private patios and secure entry, while shared rooms offer either bunk beds or full-sized beds.

Several alumni noted that they found success and recovery at Serenity Light Recovery after failing with other programs.
