ABOUT THE SANCTUARY AT THE LAKE
Sanctuary at the Lake is an inpatient and detox program at Lake Chelan Community Hospital in Chelan, Wash., three hours east of Seattle. Established more than 30 year ago, the center today continues providing residential and outpatient treatment for adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Sharing campuses with the Lake Chelan Community Hospital, Sanctuary at the Lake's on-site medical detoxification services places the facility among 2.8 percent of facilities statewide to provide hospital-based detox.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Prospective clients seeking treatment at Sanctuary at the Lake begin with a clinical and medical assessment, the results of which form the basis of an individualized plan of care that makes use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based therapies.
Participants take part in a structured and supportive curriculum that’s designed to, in addition to meeting an individual’s needs, “create balance and emphasize personal responsibility.” Programming consists of group and individual counseling, meditation, psychoeducation, nutritional counseling, and spiritual counseling.
Other core components of treatment include medication management services and holistic and recreational activities like yoga, fishing, and bowling. Loved ones are invited to attend a two-day family program that’s led by psychologists. Sanctuary at the Lake also encourages clients to participate in 12-step fellowship.
Prior to completing treatment, residents work on developing a discharge plan that’s designed to help them transition back into independent living. An alumni association also connects graduates with recovery activities, sober resources, and relapse prevention training.
Sanctuary at the Lake employs a medical doctor, licensed psychologist, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, licensed counselors, an occupational therapist, and other professionals.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
To date, feedback provided by two program participants to Rehabs.com was positive. Alum Sarah gave Sanctuary at the Lake four and five out of five-stars for areas such as treatment effectiveness, treatment for co-occurring disorders, and staff training and experience. While she felt the exercise facility was in need of some improvement, she described the program as overall “a really well rounded program for co-occurring disorders.”
Also awarding the facility five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, third time admit J.B. claimed that their success “took determination,” but added: “Probably saved my life.”
Secondary sources revealed mixed opinions. While the center had an excellent overall rating of four out of five stars from eight individuals on Google to date, many of whom shared details of rewarding and satisfying treatment experiences, Citehealth demonstrated nearly the opposite, with an overall rating of 1.8 out of five stars based on five reviews.
On the latter, alumni indicated that the program did not operate as advertised. “Went to the Sanctuary because their website was very inviting and I thought I would receive the help I needed. This couldn't be farther from the truth," wrote one anonymous alum. Another added: “They know nothing about dual diagnosis or re-occurring disorders-relapse.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
The single Rehabs.com survey response from a former staffer indicated high overall ratings for its treatment effectiveness and quality of staff leadership amongst other areas. The staff member also shared some advice for prospective clients. “You can not quit for your wife, girlfriend, offspring, job or anything else. You have to quit because you want to. Getting rid of addiction is paramount for a quality life.”
Sanctuary at the Lake accepts many commercial health insurance plans, private pay, and Medicare, the latter of which is accepted by just over a fifth (20.1 percent) of all facilities statewide.
