Specialization

  • EMDR

    Free by the Sea offers eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence based therapy for trauma victims. EMDR therapy is empirically supported through 30+ studies, providing evidence for the decrease of intense negative feelings that occur due to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Free by the Sea offers EMDR therapy in individual sessions with a licensed mental health counselor trained specifically in this therapy method. The client will be evaluated to determine if EMDR therapy is the appropriate treatment method for your healing process.
  • DBT

    Free by the Sea offers dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for addiction recovery; a treatment modality that has proven to be effective for the treatment of addiction. DBT provides copings skills through four main pillars: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Free by the Sea offers DBT skills training in individual and group therapy settings and provides ongoing support in skills application.

  • Dr. Richard Crabbe
    Dr. Richard CrabbeMedical Director
    Dr. Richard Crabbe joined our team in 2019 as our psychiatrist. He attended the University of Ghana Medical School where he became a Medical Doctor in 1977. From 1978 through 1984, he was a medical officer in the Ghana Navy and provided a variety of services from general medicine to surgeries. Dr. Crabbe’s vast education includes studies in England, New York, and Nebraska. He received his Certificate in General Psychology from the American Board of Psychology and Neurology in 2002. Dr. Crabbe is married with two children and enjoys music, reading and chi gong ( an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique).
  • Kayla Hernandez
    Kayla HernandezClinical Director
    Kayla has served at Free by the Sea since 2017. She has served in a variety of roles including starting out as a residential substance use disorder counselor, supervising the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, and currently holds the position of the substance use clinical director and oversees the FBTS program across all levels of care. Kayla obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology and received training in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Kayla loves working in the addiction recovery field and is honored to be part of the healing and recovery process.
