  • Client & Family Support Groups

Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
  • Medical Detoxification

Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Royal Life Centers at Puget Sound is a detoxification and residential rehabilitative program in Sumner, Wash., about 40 minutes south of Seattle. Residential treatment is gender-specific. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 42.2 percent of rehabs in Washington State offer a treatment program specifically tailored for adult women, while 36.1 percent offer one tailored for adult men.

The first step of the intake process is a medical assessment. If necessary, clients begin treatment with medical detoxification and stabilization. A 2017 SAMHSA survey indicates that 4.5 percent of rehabs in Washington State offer detox in a residential setting.

Following detox, clients begin residential treatment, which is both holistically inspired and individualized. According to the organization's website, the program's evidence-based therapies includes individual sessions as well as groups based on the biopsychosocial model of addiction. In residential treatment, clients receive counseling to identify triggers and develop the necessary coping skills to manage them, per the facility's website.

Each day of treatment begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 8:00 PM. Both the detox and residential programs consist of five groups per day.

Treatment staff is made up of addiction therapists and counselors. Clients also have access to case managers. The facility is certified by both the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), certifications held by 12.9 and 17.7 percent of rehabs in Washington State respectively.

Clients reside in shared rooms with private storage space and unlocked doors. They also have access to a full-service kitchen and healthy meals and snacks. According to the facility's website, outdoor areas include a space for meditation and sports. Clients also have access to communal flat-screen TVs and an Xbox. Leisure activities available include art, yoga, writing, and music.

Though Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from the program's alumni, Royal Life Centers at Puget Sound holds an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars based on 15 reviews on Google.[1] Positive reviews tended to focus on the staff. "Their staff is a group of amazing individuals who really care about each guest," alum Tiffany wrote in a representative review.

Negative reviews tended to focus on the treatment. One alum, Shelley wrote in a representative review: "I felt like I was in jail. I did not feel supported. There were some great employees, but the program was not good." Others complained about the quality of the food.

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from loved ones of alumni. However, two loved ones on Google left a one-star and a three-star review respectively. The one-star reviewer wrote of his wife's experience: "She said they basically locked her in a dark room for 3 days." They also complained of unclean facilities, though they did note that their wife "said that the staff were amazing."

The three-star reviewer, Nathan, had mostly positive things to say about the treatment and the staff, but noted he encountered problems with the corporate office in Florida. Nathan wrote: "I wish I could recommend this facility, but due to the billing office and an unexplained $25,000 claim unrelated to her inpatient stay itself I would stay far away."

The facility accepts Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, and Optum, among other private insurance plans.
