Find the Best Drug & Alcohol Rehab Facilities in Michigan

Addiction is a chronic, relapsing condition, and continued drug use can alter the user’s brain chemistry, making it increasingly difficult to exert control over their substance use.1 Finding the right drug and alcohol rehab center can mean the difference between life and death, as continued substance abuse increases the risk of fatal overdose or accidents while intoxicated.

If you’re a Michigan resident or you’re seeking to travel to MI for rehab, read on to find out how to begin your journey.

Serenity Point Recovery Center

Serenity has helped me understand that holding on to anger and pain only damages myself and has stopped my personal growth for years. I can't let other peoples actions and the way they treated me be an excuse to use. I realize I'm in control of my sobriety and it really doesn't matter what happened in my past I have a future to look forward to with the support of my family. I now know that I can express my feelings without being aggressive or walked over. Setting my own boundaries with the people I need to including myself, like making sure I'm aware and not dwelling on bad thoughts while experiencing urges. Not minimizing situations but handling them accordingly as they come. Letting people go in my life that haven't helped me be the best person I can be. I'm much happier without worrying about what other people think of me. I'm not scared to make new friends or stepping back out to create a more positive life. I look at the world differently and always want to keep this beautiful outlook verses black holes and thunderstorms of rage. The world is truly amazing and I'm going to offer everything I can to make it better!!!!

A Forever Recovery

One of my best friends of many years went to A Forever Recovery. He is one of my closest friends and is like a brother to me. It became apparent to me a little less than a year ago that he was suffering with an addiction to Oxycontin, a substance abuse habit that I had been suspicious that he had but never had been able to confirm until he flat out admitted it to me. I had seen other friends fall prey to addiction over the years, so I knew what I was seeing, but I couldn’t get him to admit it to me. He finally came to his parents and me and admitted that he had a problem, and we immediately worked quickly to find him a rehab center to go to. We acted fast, because we didn\'t know how long he’d be in the frame of mind where he was willing to get help and do something about his addiction habit. He had been so hidden and reticent in recent past that we were afraid he’d jump back into that stage soon enough. Shortly after beginning our search, we happened across A Forever Recovery. This center really jumped off the page at us. His parents, my friend, and I were all quite impressed with the literature we read about the center, and shortly afterwards we went in for a tour. I was quite impressed with the facility itself, the staff members there, and their rehabilitation program. A Forever Recovery offers a very malleable yet structured program. I knew at once that this would be effective for my friend because, while I knew he needed a program that could be structured around his needs and wants and what he basically as an individual needed to address to beat addiction, I also knew that he needed structure and a reliable schedule to really beat the habit once and for all and for good. Once my best friend was in A Forever Recovery and attending the program, I knew we’d made the right choice. I was a little nervous at first saying goodbye to him on his first day but the staff comforted his parents and me and we felt so comfortable with their calming presence that our concerns were soon assuaged. Ever since that first day my greatest and closest friend has done nothing but improve. He improved while he was in the center, and he’s been improving every day since he graduated. All of the great and lovable characteristics that he has have been enhanced and all the bad ones that came with the addiction are now gone. I finally have my best friend back, and I have A Forever Recovery to thank for that! -Jason

Great Lakes Rehabilitation Center

Before my son went to Best Drug Rehab he was addicted to heroin and Xanax. He had a daughter that he never saw, never talked to and for the most part just pretended like she didn’t exist. When his girlfriend at the time found out she was pregnant she got clean and got her life together. I thought my son would do the same but he just went on using. I’ve never been able to get him to agree to go to rehab. He’s always said the same thing which was that he didn’t want to get clean. He liked heroin, he liked Xanax and had no interest in not using them. I still don’t really understand that. It just doesn’t make sense to me that someone would choose heroin over their child. About 9 months ago, my son got arrested. It was the first time he had been arrested and I believe he was under the impression that if he ever was to get arrested his dad and I would just bail him out of jail and pay for his lawyer. We didn’t though. Both my husband and I agreed that while we couldn’t force our son to get help with his addiction we would never bail him out of jail just so he could go get high again. We just told him to call us when he was ready to go to rehab and we would help him get into a rehab. So many things have happened in my son’s life where I thought “this is it, this is the thing that’s going to change my son’s mind about getting clean” invariably those things have never changed his mind about getting clean. Jail didn’t either but 2 months later he called us and told us that he was ready. We sent him to Best Drug Rehab and the facility has helped my son so much. When my son first started using I did a lot of research on drug addiction and rehabs. Finding out how high the relapse rate of drug addicts going back to their addiction after a rehab scared me. So, when my son decided to get help I was glad but I wasn’t expecting all that much from Best Drug Rehab. I really liked the programs there and the facility looked really nice but I was mentally prepared to have to send my son there multiple times before he would actually manage to stay clean. It was honestly surprising to me how well my son did there. He not only went through the treatment program there without getting into any trouble or anything he also took parenting classes so he could be a better father. He started really working on mending his relationship with his ex-girlfriend and wants to be a dad to his daughter. When he graduated the program and came home I was still really worried. Getting clean in a rehab is one thing. Staying clean when you graduated and go home is something else entirely. He stayed home for a little over 2 months and then went back there to work. He loves it there. He gets to help people the same way he was helped. I don’t know what would have happened with my son if we had sent him to a different rehab but I don’t think it would have helped my son half as much as Best Drug Rehab did.

MI Substance Abuse Facts

Misusing drugs and alcohol can lead to a number of negative consequences such as health problems, crime, addiction, and death.

In Michigan, the misuse of opioids continues to be a major public health concern. Consider the following statewide statistics:

  • In 2014, there were 4 million more opioid prescriptions written than in 2007.2
  • In 2014, there were 745 million prescriptions written for schedule II drugs, compared to just 180 million in 2007.2
  • Hydrocodone is the most prescribed drug in Michigan, accounting for 32% of all prescriptions written.2
  • From 2009 to 2012, the overdose rate was 12.3 deaths per every 100,000 Michigan residents.3
  • More than one-third of Michigan residents who died of an opioid-related overdose had doctor shopped in the past year.3

Visiting multiple doctors in order to receive new prescriptions, or “doctor shopping,” is just one warning sign that you may be heading down the path to addiction.

Getting Addiction Treatment Help in MI

Substance use disorder is characterized by a compulsion to continue using drugs or alcohol despite harmful consequences such as physical and mental health problems, financial hardship, legal troubles, and close calls with overdose or other near-fatal accidents.

Through evidence-based methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing, addiction can be managed and treated over the long-term. Treatment can occur in a variety of settings, including inpatient residential facilities, outpatient office visits, 12-step programs and other group meetings, intensive outpatient services, and partial hospitalization programs.

If you or a loved one is ready to start looking into Michigan rehab programs, you can begin by searching through our database of available centers, or call us at . Our treatment support specialists are available 24/7 to help answer your questions and locate a center that will work best for you and your needs.

Where Else Can I Find Help in MI?

If cost is a barrier to treatment for you, you are not alone. Millions of Americans need addiction treatment every year and do not receive the proper care because of cost and other factors.

However, there are many ways to finance your rehab and get the care you need and deserve. For example, many centers offer sliding scale payment plans that allow you to pay what you can based on your income and financial circumstances. Other centers may offer financing so that you don’t have to pay the entire cost upfront.

As you research drug and alcohol rehab centers, ask about programs or scholarships for low-income, uninsured, or homeless individuals, depending on your situation. Other options you could consider to help cover costs include:

  • State-funded rehab centers.
  • Crowdfunding platforms like GoFundMe.
  • Seeking a personal loan from family or friends.
  • Applying for a healthcare loan or credit card.
Resources in Michigan
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: The Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator is an easy-to-use tool to find treatment centers. Search by city, state, or zip code to find a facility that meets your needs.
  • Michigan Medicaid: If you are unable to pay for health insurance or the cost of rehab treatment, determine if you’re eligible for a state Medicaid insurance plan. These plans are required to provide coverage for addiction treatment and mental health services.

If you or someone you love is having an emergency related to potential overdose or an accident caused by drug impairment, call 911 immediately. Your local emergency services agency is best suited to provide immediate assistance. If you are having suicidal thoughts and don’t know where to turn, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
